A CANDLELIGHT WEEKEND

Birgu Fest to kick off in 2 days

October is in actual facts the last month of summer in Malta and with temperature still reaching up to 30 degrees, outdoor events continue entertaining us.

If you missed last Saturday Notte Bianca in Valletta, don’t worry. We still have much going on in Malta.

The next big appointment is in Birgu from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th October with the Birgu fest and Birgu by candlelight.

Birgu is one of the Three Cities, together with Senglea and Cospicua. It was awarded the name of Città Vittoriosa thanks to the ability of withstanding the Ottoman attack during the Great Siege of 1565.

Birgu or Vittoriosa is a fortified city, oldest than the capital city Valletta. The city is a must-see destination, with its attraction being Fort St Angelo, built by the knights of Malta to protect the Grand Harbour.

The Birgu Fest will kick off Friday 12th October in the morning, the festival will last 3 days. The highlight will be Saturday 13th October when, at 6.30 pm, street lights will be switched off and the city will be lit up by candlelight creating a magical and unique atmosphere.

Saturday 13th from 6 to 9 pm and Sunday 14th October from 9 am to 2 pm you can enjoy free cultural tours guided by the experienced Maltese guide Vincent Zammit. Tours will start from the Couvre Porte.

Moreover, Sunday 14th from 9 am the In Guardia parade will take place in Pjazza Tal-Belt. The historical re-enactment portrays the inspection of the fort by the Grand Bailiff of the Order of the Knights of St John. You will step back in time.

Heritage Malta will also offer a combo ticket at the special price of € 2 which will include access to the Inquisitor Palace, the Maritime Museum and Fort St Angelo.

If you love mystery and supernatural, on Friday 12th Heritage Malta will held animated tours of Fort St Angelo. Participants must be 16 years and over. The ticket is € 10 and can be purchased from Heritage Malta sites and museums or online.

And then food stands, live music, exhibitions and more.

So make sure to lit up your weekend! And if you take beautiful shots share them with us on Instagram.
